MESSAGE FROM US

A summary of 2008

Dear old boys,

The year 2008 witnessed the important growth and development of the SFXC Foundation. We raised over 3 millions from our "$3-Million Drive" campaign by this March, which was generously matched dollar-to-dollar in entirety by Mr. Henry Fan, an old boy of 1964, eventually highlighting the total of the Foundation reserve at the 10-Million milestone. Ever since after, the committee has been prudent and conservative in managing the fund and formulating investment strategies in the hope that the fund can grow with the Foundation as well as sponsor our Alma Mater with more options to enhance the standard of learning, teaching, and other endeavours.

To this end, the Foundation management committee is regretted to inform you that we failed in growing the Foundation reserve thus far except the interest income from time deposit. We have, however, succeeded in preserving our precious capital despite the financial turmoil that began to emerge early this year. Our asset management committee will continue to monitor closely and devise suitable actions once the market situation becomes more stable.

One important step we have made to enhance our fellow students' learning environment is the appointment of an additional English teacher, Mr. Cheung Ka Ho, holder of Bachelor of Education (Honours) from Hong Kong Institution of Education (Biography here). The extra teaching force has empowered the school with the flexibility to perform F.1 English class restructuring. With a higher teacher-to-student ratio, the attention given to each student is enhanced, paving way for enhancement of their language standard.

The Foundation has also gradually taken over the provision of several prevalent scholarships and awards in school, such that these prizes can be more long-lasting beyond their planned duration.

Starting this year, the Foundation has provided awards to encourage students with outstanding performances in public examinations. Over HK$60,000 has been awarded to students who achieved outstanding results in HKCEE and HKALE. It is hoped that such awards can serve as an incentive for our students to study even harder and retain in SFXC to further their matriculation studies, carrying on the atmosphere and heritage for lower form students to follow.

Let us look forward to a year of prosperous development of the SFXC Foundation and our Alma Mater in 2009!

Management Committee of SFXC Foundation
