Dear fellow Xaverian,

How time flies! It seems like only yesterday that we celebrated our Alma Mater's 50 th Anniversary with a Golden Jubilee Banquet at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It was truly a joyous and nostalgic occasion as former and present teaching staff and students rejoiced in the St Francis Xavier's spirit with the Brothers.

As part of the Jubilee celebrations, the SFXC Foundation Limited was set up with the specific aims of improving school facilities, enhancing teaching capability, and disbursing scholarships to outstanding students as well as assisting needy students. On conclusion of the various Jubilee activities, the total sum of funds raised amounted to just over HK$7 million. After disbursing some HK$3.5 million for improving school facilities, including renovation of the old block, HK$3.8 million is presently held by the Foundation.

We are pleased to report that one of our past students, who wishes to remain anonymous, has most generously pledged to donate HK$3 million to the Foundation on the basis of matching dollar-for-dollar an equal amount to be raised by the Foundation by the end of this year. Our benefactor is particularly concerned about the general decline of English language standards in Hong Kong and hopes that additional English teachers may be employed and extra classes and workshops organized to improve students' knowledge and use of the English language.

The Foundation is now launching a fund raising drive in response to our benefactor's pledge and once again appeals to your generosity to help hit this target. We should be most grateful if you would show your support by completing the Donation Form and return it with your donation on or before 30 November 2007.

Whilst we gratefully accept all donations, we would suggest contributions of HK$1,000 or its multiples. We earnestly hope to surpass the initial target so as to give the Foundation a sound basis in improving School facilities and assisting its students. The Foundation is a registered charity organization thus donations are eligible for tax deductions. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors, headed by Bro Joseph Chang, Supervisor of SFXC. The Board is assisted in its fund raising and day to day operation by a Management Committee, chaired by Lionel Lam Kin.
